Week 2: Self-Determination and Action

“First say to yourself what you would be; and then do what you have to do.”

(Epictetus)

The Essence

A call for self-definition and proactivity. Before you act, you need to know what kind of person you want to be (patient, brave, honest). Your actions must then follow this inner definition. You control the role you play, not the game itself.

Takeaway

We are not victims of circumstance, but the architects of our own character. Consciously choose who you are and act accordingly.

Application in Daily Life

  • The morning definition: Every morning, define three character traits that you want to embody today (e.g., diligent, grateful, calm).
  • The “Inner Auditor”: When faced with difficult tasks, ask yourself, “What would the ‘brave’ version of me do now?” Act on principle, not impulse.
  • The Evening Review: Don't reflect on what you got done, but on how you were. Were you the person you wanted to be?
